Aluminum Hydroxide (Al(OH)₃) nanoparticles are ultra-fine, high-purity powders with exceptional surface area, making them highly effective in specialized applications. They decompose at around 180 °C, absorbing significant amounts of heat and releasing water vapor, which provides a dual benefit as both a fire retardant and smoke suppressant.
In polymer industries, they are used as fire retardant fillers in materials such as polyesters, acrylics, ethylene vinyl acetate, epoxies, PVC, and rubber. Beyond flame-retardant applications, aluminum hydroxide serves as a precursor in producing various aluminum compounds including specialty calcined aluminas, aluminum sulfate, polyaluminum chloride, aluminum chloride, zeolites, sodium aluminate, activated alumina, and aluminum nitrate.
More than 90% of industrially produced aluminum hydroxide is converted to aluminum oxide (alumina) for aluminum metal manufacturing. Pharmacologically, Al(OH)₃ is used as an antacid (marketed as Alu-Cap, Aludrox, Pepsamar) by neutralizing excess gastric acid.
Applications:
Fire retardant filler for polymers
Smoke suppressant additive
Raw material for producing advanced aluminum compounds
Manufacture of alumina for aluminum production
Pharmaceutical antacid formulations
Recommended Dosage:
Typically 1–5%, with adjustments based on system-specific performance testing.
