Description

Few-Layer Niobium Carbide Nb₂CTₓ MXene Colloidal Suspension (1 mg/mL)

This few-layer Nb₂CTₓ MXene suspension is a high-purity aqueous dispersion composed of partially exfoliated niobium carbide nanosheets. The material contains thin 2D flakes with lateral dimensions of approximately 0.5–1 µm in length and 3–20 µm in width, forming a black, stable colloidal system at 1 mg/mL concentration. Its layered morphology provides a balance between mechanical stability and accessible surface reactivity, making the dispersion highly suitable for advanced electronic, catalytic, sensing and composite applications.

Nb₂CTₓ belongs to the MXene family of 2D transition-metal carbides and carbonitrides, known for their exceptional conductivity, programmable surface terminations, and tunable interlayer spacing. The few-layer form maintains strong electron pathways while offering more accessible surface chemistry compared to bulk or multi-layer structures—ideal for coatings, printed electronics, and hybrid nanomaterial formulations.

What This Material Is

Few-layer Nb₂CTₓ is a partially exfoliated MXene derived from a niobium-based MAX phase. It consists of thin stacks of 2D Nb₂CTₓ nanosheets, combining excellent electrical conductivity with improved handling and dispersion stability. Surface terminations (Tx) such as –O, –OH, and –F further enhance wettability and reactivity.

3. Conductive Inks & Printed Electronics

Its stable 2D dispersion enables formulation of conductive inks, printable pastes, antistatic films, EMI-shielding coatings, and flexible electronic components.

4. Sensors & Biosensing

The tunable surface groups and high surface area make this MXene suitable for chemiresistors, electrochemical sensors, biosensors, and functionalized detection platforms.

5. Composite Reinforcement & Coatings

When incorporated into polymer, ceramic or metal matrices, it enhances electrical and thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, and interfacial bonding, enabling functional coatings and engineered composites.

6. Template & Derived Materials

Few-layer Nb₂CTₓ acts as a precursor for films, heterostructures, porous carbides/oxides, and other architected materials created via controlled chemical or thermal transformation.

Production Overview

This MXene suspension is produced by selectively etching the Al layer from a niobium MAX phase, followed by controlled intercalation and exfoliation. This process yields few-layer Nb₂CTₓ nanosheets that are dispersed in water and stabilized to maintain their colloidal form without restacking.
