Graphene oxide is an oxidized version of graphene having a structure and characteristics distinct from its predecessor. Most crucial because of the negative charge on its surface, GO can be distributed in polar solvents like water. Water dispersion of graphene oxide is considered black, odorless, and contains monolayer and few-layer flakes, distinguishing it from graphene oxide. Through covalent bonds, the oxygen functions in the GO promote interaction with diverse chemical species. The noncovalent functionalization of graphene, GO, is aided by various interacting forces, for example, hydrogen bonding, ionic interionic, and Van der Waals forces. This is a significant advantage when the material is combined with polymer or ceramic mixtures to improve mechanical and electrical qualities. Graphene oxide is an electrical insulator when it comes to electrical conductivity. Reduced graphene oxide is a material with intermediate structural traits and properties that may be reduced in a variety of methods and processes to remove part of the oxygen atoms. The conjugated graphene plane is essentially restored by reduction, resulting in a material that is somewhat conductive and dispersible in appropriate solvents. The oxygen functional groups and GO provide hydrophilicity which allows it to dissolve in water and the polar solvents. Without the use of a surfactant, graphene oxide dispersion is exceptionally stable and may be kept for a long time.

Application

GO's Chemical reactivity allows it to be used in a variety of applications, including lubrication. Griffin dispersions in water and ethanol make it easier to handle grip for users in coatings, composites, and other innovative materials applications while also being ecologically friendly. When dissolved in distilled water by sonication, single layer graphene oxide from Nanograhenex has a pH of roughly three to five. Transparent conductive films and coatings, solar energy storage, biosensors, drug delivery devices, and a variety of other applications are among them.
