Fullerene/Buckyball has a spherical
geometry with a hollow interior having 60 carbon atoms. Fullerene has 60 carbon atoms
with 20 hexagons and 12 Pentagon in a cage-like lattice. It has an ideal
zero-dimensional building unit which allows higher dimensional structures
having 1D, 2D, and 3D nanomaterials. It has a higher surface area, low
dimensionality, and potential quantum confinement. Large area C60 crystals are
used as organic photodetectors exhibiting UV light sensing. It also presents
water purification and bio-hazard protection. It is also used in portable power
devices, which are used in proton exchange membranes for fuel cells.
