Graphene oxide is made of a single-layer
graphene sheet having covalent bonds to oxygen functional groups on base planes
and edges of the sheet. The edges consist of carboxyl, phenol, lactone,
quinone, and carbonyl groups, while the basal plane has hydroxyl and epoxy
groups. They have easy sentences with various properties, including electrical
resistance, high thermal insulation properties. Exhibit high solubility and
possibility for surface functionalization; therefore are used in nanocomposite
materials. GO membranes are useful in water treatment applications and are also
effective fillers for polymer nanocomposites.
